How this comparison works
Towns assess homes at different shares of their market value, so their general rates can't be compared directly. This tool uses each town's effective rate, which the state publishes for exactly this purpose. It applies to market value, so it lets you put the same home price in both places.
The result is what a home assessed like the town average would pay. A specific home can be assessed higher or lower than average, so its actual bill can differ. Use the town's page and your assessment notice for a specific property.
